Patty has a bit of a reputation at this track, as he has never been overtaken. His Porsche 911 is one of the fastest the German motor icon has ever produced, and teamed with his driving skill it is no wonder that he lays claim to the impressive stat. It is even more impressive given the fact that he has all year pass to the track and drives there most weekends when it is open. Basically the man can drive!

Patty did a quick (when I say quick I mean quick) lap to see how the track was playing. It was in quite good shape, so Patty took Dani for a lap around the track. I awaited there return as I was the next to play patty's passenger. They took longer than usual, about half an hour. Turns out there was a problem with a motor cyclist, but that is another story.

When they returned I quickly jumped in the Porsche, and buckled up. Patty gave me the whole, if you feel like throwing up do this, if you want me to slow down, you can get out of the car now. OK, no worries Patty, lets hit the track.

I can honestly say those 12 minutes were the scariest, but at the same most exhilarating of my life. We were constantly overtaking cars (some times at speeds up to 260km/hr), getting sideways, making the wheels squeal, being cheered by spectators, and getting sideways a little more. It was incredible. I have never seen anyone drive like him, not even the pros.

On the Track

He pushes his car to the limit and has the theory that when he races he drives to 99% of the cars maximum performance, and 99% of his ability. He says that if you drive any harder then that, you lose the edge.

After we had finished the lap Patty told me that I was only the second person that has ever laughed in his car whilst driving at the Nürburgring, and I had been a good passenger. I thanked him and told him that I probably wont be driving around the Nürburgring again.

A racey Truck

But I was wrong. I did a lap with Steve, but it wasn't anywhere near as fast as the lap with Paddy, sorry Steve. We had the MX8 strapped to the dashboard, and taped the whole lap. Steve has watched it countless times, storing every turn and bump deep in his memory, for the next time he drives there.

After the lap with Steve we went and grabbed a bite to eat. We went to a famous restaurant, where some of the F1 drivers stay when the race at the track. Afterwards we went back to the track, and Steve dropped me off at a section that I could do some filming from.
